colour variations in Schaeffer panels

colour variations in Schaeffer panels

2008-06-29 by Duh!

Hi - I just took delivery of 25 panels I ordered from Schaeffer in
Berlin. They look fabulous with silver engraving on blue.

However I was a bit disappointed that one of the panels is a much
darker shade of blue than the others - it's very noticable when the
panels are sided by side (as they will be).

Has anyone else had experience of this? I have emailed Schaeffer, but
have not had a response yet.

My black panels have the same issue. Some are a warmer
black than the others. Some have a bit more texture,
although my description of "a bit more" is probably
hyper reacting to a very small difference in
appearance.

Comes from the anodizing I think. Oh well, finger
prints disguise the difference as time goes on really.

BTW, nice job with the blue and silver. Saves quite a
bit of money to foregoe the paint infill.

Update:

Great news from Schaeffer - they have offered to collect the panel
(along with a another of the correct colour) and remake with a better
colour match - all at their own cost including UPS collection.

What a great response from a company.

The wax infill cost-savings where offset by the HPGL ticks I added
round the knobs - so cost worked out about the same overall, apart
from those panels with a lot of knobs.

Pleased as punch

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] Re: colour variations in Schaeffer panels

That's good news. I've been a pretty big FPE customer. One panel I
received had flaws in the paint, actually some small splotches. I
contacted them and they re-manufactured the panel and sent it right
out. I didn't even have to return the bad one. That was for a paint
problem. I have noticed a wide variation in the black anodizing from
order to order. Each order has been a small number of panels, and those
always have come back consistent with each other. But not with previous
orders. I've just chalked it up to the anodizing process. BTW, the
last order I got from FPE was packaged in shrink-wrap instead of in
layers of paper. They do seem to be trying to improve. But the prices
are sky-high now.

Here's a link to the latest FPE project: another Blacet to MOTM conversion.
