hookup wire

hookup wire

2008-04-11 by adaaxs

Time for me to get some new hookup wire. I am down to bits of 30ga solid telco untinned
copper, 20 ga tinned solid and stranded. I need to re up on my supply. I like solid wire but I'm
thinking it may not be the best for long term reliabilty.

For coax I have a good bit of Belden rg174 26ga core ( i think). I used to use something a
little thinner and stiffer but I lost track of the number.

It would be nice to know what is use among my peers.

22ga stranded, your basic hookup wire. Now over $20 a spool! What, are
they making that stuff out of corn or something?

You can get 100 foot rolls of 22 AWG for $5.75 each:

I also have some 24 AWG stranded which works fine, and 20 AWG works
as well. Whatever difference in resistance is infinitesimal over
such short distances.

I bought a couple of rolls of 24 AWG twisted pair hookup wire from
Jameco. It's quite convenient, and can be easily untwisted if I want
the extra colors.
