TR606 'Individual Outs' Jacks...

TR606 'Individual Outs' Jacks...

2008-01-07 by James Elliott

Hey guys, I would like to perform the individual output mod on my tr606 and I was curious as to what model jacks people were using.

Specifically, I am looking for mouser/allied part numbers or manufacturer name & model info. I was trying to not send this request to this group, however no one responded to me at Analog Heaven and my posts are not showing up at Synth_DIY for some reason. So.....

Thanks,
Jim

My advice is don't do it. I remember many years ago, I sold a
perfectly-working TR-606 in near mint condition, with the carrying
case, manual, original Roland batteries, etc. to some kid on AH. A
week later he posted how he completely butchered the thing trying to
mod it.

Imho, the sounds of the TR-606 aren't all that great, and its
sequencer isn't as good as the 707, 808, or 909. That being said, it
already has two trigger outs.

If you still want to add individual outputs, then the way to do it is
to measure how much space you have, then look up the dimensions for
whatever jacks are available. Mouser usually has links to the pdf
files from the manufacturer.

Still, I think you would be better off getting an 808, or buying or
building some analogue drum modules. Used "drum brains" from Tama,
Simmons, etc. (which can be triggered from the TR-606 HT/LT outputs)
are fairly inexpensive.

Thanks for the advice, however I am going to do it. Plus I have a 909, and I personally like the 606 better (minus the kick). I'm not going to purchase an 808 (even though it is my favorite of the 3) because I'm going to use that money to get the new linndrum. To each his own, I guess. Also, whereas I am a electronics diy newbie I hardly think I am going to butcher my 606 as I have plenty of other diy experience and I trust myself with my tools.

And regarding sourcing the parts - I know what functionality mouser has available on their website, have you had the opportunity to look for 3.5mm jacks? There are a ton of different models. I am asking for other people's advice because I don't want to reinvent the wheel (like the kid who bought & butchered your 606).

Regards,
Jim

Download order request by phone the Mouser catalogue, Then Check out page 977. There you will find several possible canidates for your mod.

16PJ012 is a socket that I have used for mods where space was tight, and I would recommend it IF it will fit into your tight space.

OVERESTIMATE.

Tony
