Blacet Mini Wave panel question

Blacet Mini Wave panel question

2002-12-11 by Richard Brewster

Has anyone here built a Mini Wave in MOTM format?  There is a Stooge panel available for it, and there's a panel in our database (a red panel!).  These designs are different, but use the same basic layout of the four pots in a square arrangement.  Here is the question.

How is the PC board mounted?  I'll know more when I get my Mini Wave kit to look at.  Blacet modules usually have a large PC board, and this is a good fit for a 4-pot LONG Stooge bracket.  I suppose the bracket could be mounted using only two of the pots.  But it would be more secure if all 4 pots were on the right side, through the Stooge bracket, which is an option I'm going to consider.

Thanks,

Richard Brewster

Many of us have Richard. Here is a link with photos and a complete
set of detailed instructions to do the conversion that should answer
all of your questions:

http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/mw2090/miniwave.htm

How is the PC board mounted?

A: Stooge 4 pot long

I suppose the bracket could be mounted using only two of the pots.

A: It is, and works very well. Only 2 slight cuts are needed on the
corners of the bracket.

But it would be more secure if all 4 pots were on the right side,
through the Stooge bracket, which is an option I'm going to consider.

A: Yes, but it is plenty fine with only 2. However, since all panel
components are mounted off the board, the arrangement you describe is

very workable.

Here is a link to Dave Hylander's Miniwavr conversion site. Dave ran
his wires under the PCB. Since he turned me onto this, I have been
doing the same as much as possible on my conversions (see my time
machine conversion).

And, I see that dave is finally coming out of the closet with his
Miniwave work. I'll let Dave sat the rest.

Thanks a lot, Larry. I don't know how I missed that page! I've seen most
of your site. The photos are really helpful.

With out going into details, I have several Stooge MW
FPs for sale. These are both on Stooge metal and MOTM
blank panel stock.

These are of incredible quality. I am not sure why
anybody would reinvent the wheel here. (Unless they
don't like black.)

I would like to see some pics though of the German
panels if anyone has done them already or in the
future.

If you are interested purchasing Stooge MW FPs right
now, email me directly.

Yes, Todd. I am interested. Is there much difference between the Stooge
paint and the MOTM paint? Do you have photos? And lastly, of course, how
much you asking?

I would be interested in details since they have my trademark on
them. :)

Actually, you should post this the MOTM list. I have had more than
one person ask me for extras of the Miniwave Panel. Robert Rich is
one of those looking. But, he will expect his to be drilled.

The paint used on Stooge panels is the exact same paint used on MOTM
panels. Sherwin Williams Polane T. It takes 5 compounds to use that
paint:
1 - paint
2 - reducer for paint
3 - catalyst for paint
4 - primer
5 - catalyst/reducer for primer.
Tally for stuff required for one gallon of paint $200.

What is slightly differet is the texture. The splatter on the paint
is a bit of an art that varies greatly with mixture, temperature and
such. Since I use a different painter, they are slightly different.
Paul's even vary from batch to batch, as do Stooge panels.

You asked. Them is the facts.

Larry spent a lot of time get the coatings pretty
consistent at the beginning, so the slight variability
not really noticible on casual inspection. Larry is
incredible when it comes to details, so he is being
modest. I am one of Larry's largest panel customers I
am guessing, so I have seen quite a few of them.

I personally slightly prefer Larry's splattering to
Paul's. Although when all mounted, you can't tell any
difference from the audience at a performance.

I am SWAMPED this weekend. I will get back with
everyone on the panels by next Wednesday. FYI, all
panels are drilled. And Robert is welcome to contact
me directly.
