I was conversing with Larry some time ago about doing a generic panel on his next run - a 1U with 4 knobs and 4 jacks, and a 2U with 8 knobs and 8 jacks. I was thinking of tick marks for the knobs, center markers for the jacks and knobs, and a thin white alignment line where the legends would be. You can print white text on a black background on adhesive-backed labels, cut them out, and place them over the alignment line. I cover mine with some clear tape prior to cutting them out. They look reasonably nice if you cut them right at the text edges. This 'hides' the edge of the label and the white lines would give you an alignment reference. This is similar to the MusicFromOuterSpace Universal Synth Module Front Panel but would have the tick marks. To me, panel thickness, black, and tick marks are the requirements for reasonable compatibility. Obviously we never got to the next run. I'd buy some of these.
