OT: legendary vintage synth?

OT: legendary vintage synth?

2006-06-23 by jeffc@netaxs.com

sorry to veer off-topic, but this is really pathetic.
what, in your minds, would qualify as a "rare legendary vintage synth"?

minimoog?
arp odyssey?
oscar?
oberheim 8 voice?
prophet 5?
ppg wave?
korg pps-x series?

something akin to those, right?

well, you are SO WRONG:

<sarcasm>
time to sell my minimoog, mellotron, odyssey, serge modular, prophet 600,
moog prodigy, juno 106, korg ms10, etc. and buy this baby!!
</sarcasm>

if it's not a joke, then... eeesh.

All that money... All that money for a C3/122 combination, and I could've
had this for a fiver...

Yes indeed. Found it on eBay after watching for about three years, located in Long Island, property of a now-deceased former CBS engineer. It will take a long time to put it into working order, but it has been well-kept and is in good cosmetic condition and is completely intact.

Did you actually buy a Novachord last week? Feel free to expand on this statement, please!

Rare, is that because everyone else destroyed their's?

Yeah, like my Casio VL-1. It would be worth hundreds of cents by now.

The only thing that would make me happier would have been to get a Mark II in similar condition for the same price.

They can be expensive, they're coveted by single-ended triode valve
monoblock fanatics...

Everybody should take a quick look at Phil Cirocco's Novachord
restoration web site and listen to the mp3's, in honor of this great
acquisition.

Kind of a vacuum tube Polymoog, eh?

Boy, do I feel like an idiot for buying that Telharmonium last week...

Seriously, that's fabulous Jon. Have you received it yet? How about
keeping the list updated with your progress. Photos? The ones on the
auction page are pretty small.

No, not here yet. I was going to hire a mover, and a trusted friend of mine
said he was going to that part of the country soon so he will be personally
picking it up and bringing it the 1500 miles it has to traverse to get to my
house. I will be thoroughly documenting my own restoration, and as soon as
it arrives here I will get some good photos to post.

Ah... Are they similar to KT66s?

Yeah, that thing is a work of dedication and genius combined! This one
looks like it's in much better condition than his starting point
though.
