Insurance Coverage for Mellotrons

Insurance Coverage for Mellotrons

2003-04-03 by mellotrongirl

Noting that the value of my M-400 appears to be worth twice as much
now as it was ten years ago, I need to update the value for insurance
purposes with my homeowener's policy.

It seems though, that I got into a little trouble with my insurance
company for touring with Optigans, Farfisas and other not-so-common
equipment/vintage noisemakers--they stated that going on the road
with these things is a whole different coverage plan that just
keeping them in the living room as--ahem--pieces of furniture, sort
of speak.

I tooks pictures of the tron when I first brought it home, and told
my agent I bought it for $1,800--but they squabbled with me recently
for notifying them of its current replacement value. It must be hard
for them to conceive the value of what appears to them as an
unassuming white box.

Gee whiz--increased coverage--it's money for them anyway...

Any horror stories of insuring your 'tron/vintage gear? And what
really is the difference in coverage for touring with Mellotrons,
etc., if you dare do take these things out on tour? In my case, it's
around the town and nearby towns with a triumvirate of other noodlers
that bring out their "toys" for an occaisional unrehearsed cacophonic
bash.

Mine is named on the home contents insurance. In view of the fact that
it's worth less than five thousand pounds (which is the maximum
individual item coverage available on the policy) it's simply added
without surcharge. The advantage of naming it is that, in the event of a
fire, theft or whatever, you can establish ownership in advance and
avoid quibbling about whether or not such a thing existed or not.

A serious posting from Herr Dachshund!?! The world has gone mad.

p.s. The politics of the war aside, this American warmly thanks our brothers and sisters from across the pond for their solidarity. We here in the states are quite aware of the proud fighting tradition of British military. Special ops should always have U.K representation.

All right, Paul, you've just opened up Pandora's Box. I don't know which
side of the pond you're from (and frankly don't really care), but I'm tired
of all this America bashing from treasonous, yes, treasonous people like you.
I am a proud and patriotic American who believes in doing the right thing,
and fuck politics and political correctness. I am also damn grateful for our
British allies. Spare me the faulty liberal rhetoric like, "It's an unjust
war" - There's no circumstance in your mindset that would make it "just".
Not mass murder of hundreds of thousands of Saddam's own people over 25 years
of despotic rule (with WMD's that he says he doesn't have), giving aid to
suicide bombers and their families, not the stockpiling of WMD's (that he's
threatened to use on our troops as they approach Baghdad; what idiots like
you say he doesn't have), not 12 years of thumbing his nose at umpteen UN
resolutions and umpteen inspections (including evidence of chemical weapons
recently found that UN wunderkind Hans Blix amazingly didn't find even after
multiple inspections of the same site), aiding and abetting other terrorist
groups, etc., etc., etc. Is your Alzheimer's/Organic Brain Syndrome so bad
that you forget 9/11? I have pictures I can send you as a reminder. Do you
think that you're going to get a pass when a dirty bomb is detonated in your
neighborhood or your water supply is poisoned? You and I are still infidels
in their eyes regardless of our views and they want to kill you as much as
they want to kill me. Have you talked to displaced Iraqis (as I have) and
gotten a firsthand account of the atrocities that occur there on a regular
basis? Where does this fit in with your liberal, human rights stance? Do
you not think the Iraqis are humans? Or are you just so pissed that Bush is
President and not Gore. Are you one of those people who can't accept the
Supreme Court's decision regarding the election but gladly accept that same
Court's decision on Roe v. Wade (baby killer!) as the law of the land? Are
you aware that almost every nation in the world is supportive of this action,
save for a few like the pussy French and Germans? Unilateral action, my ass!
Where was your dissent when Clinton bombed the shit out of Bosnia without UN
or Congressional approval, hypocrite? Don't tell me that even the Pope says
it's unjust. How unjust is it going to be if we pull out and allow this
murderous regime to continue. Hey, John Paul, I don't see anywhere where
Jesus said to just stand by and allow genocide to occur. You gonna turn a
blind eye as in WWII with the Germans against the Jews, then plead ignorance
and ask for forgiveness? Are you in the minority that participate in
disruptive protests that drain police resources and run up city debts? Do
you really want me go on further?

I am a conservative, Christian, Caucasian male. Lest you get the wrong
impression that I was always like this, let me inform you that I grew up in
MA - Kennedy Country - in the 50's and 60's. A staunch Democrat, I idolized
JFK, and believed in the antiwar movement, ready to go to Canada if I had
been drafted. Back then I thought as a child, spoke as a child, and acted
like a child. I had my moment of clarity and realized that I was wrong.
Then I became a man, a worker, a husband, a father, someone with character,
responsibilities, ethics, values, and morals (look them up in Webster's
because apparently these concepts seem foreign to you). If there's anything
childlike about me, it's that I am a child of God. The rest you should have
gathered by now.

I'm not one to get up on a soapbox, but your comments strike a nerve deep
inside me and piss me off to no end. Troops are fighting, not only for the
liberation of the Iraqi people, but for your right to continue openly
verbalizing your stupidity. I sure as shit wouldn't want you in a foxhole
next to me -- but then you probably wouldn't be there -- you'd be in France
sucking down second-hand Gauloise smoke and being rude, arrogant,
misinformed, and stupid. But, hey, you're doing most of that already.

I am an American; you are not.
