Aimee Man

Hello all.

I'm kinda new to this group so I thought I'd wait till I had something to
offer before checking in.

Has anyone had the chance to check out "Lost in Space," Aimee Mann's new CD?
There is tons of Chamberlin on nearly evey cut. Mostly it is played by
Michael Lockwood, a keyboardist with whom I am not familiar. Anyone know
anything about him... other CDs on which he has appeared?

Also I wanted to thank Don Robertson herein for selling me his Mellotron
400SM and thus fulfilling my dream of once again owning one. (I lost out in
the last eBay attempt). Please check Don out on Don-Robertson.com as well as
his Dovesong.com Websites. He is an amazing musician with some remarkable
views that should be checked out by anyone in this group. Please go to his
information library... And please keep an eye on the Dovesong site. He has a
lot of worthwhile projects that could use our support. More on that in the
future.

Thanks,

Frank Stickle

Excellent CD. I saw her in concert in Portland, Maine last October.
Everything was top notch, the band was tight and she was great. The only
downside was that Patrick Warren and his Chamberlin weren't present. The
keyboard player did a good job, but obviously not as good as what you hear on
the CD. I believe that Michael Lockwood is the guitar player, and he played
some very tasty stuff at the show. His guitar arsenal consisted almost
entirely of vintage Epiphones, and the guitar sound was true to the CD, with
some very nice ringing tones. I think he also produced the record. and
played minimoog (on the CD) on "The Moth", which she opened the concert with.

Now Patrick Warren, who played Chamberlin on the album, is no stranger to
most on this list. He's played with Michael Penn, Elliot Smith, Fiona Apple
to name a few. Actually, unless I'm mistaken, I think he's probably the top
artist who still plays a tape replay device on stage these days.

Yes, it would be, if he actually *played* it! I purchased the McCartney live
DVD (best $20 I ever spent) which was recorded during his latest U.S. tour,
but I didn't once even SEE his MKV, which Martin tells me he brought with
him. I used pause, slow motion, every trick in the book, but I couldn't spot
it on stage. Apparently, it would have been located in with the gear for the
keyboard player (Wick?). I'm assuming he did play it, but maybe it wasn't
recorded on the video. Has anyone ever seen McCartney play a Mellotron on
stage? I need details ;-).

Hi Ken/all
Sorry to say but I saw the Toronto show and I can tell you with absolute certainty that neither he nor Wix played a mellotron. I also had a good view of the gear from the front of the stage. Many new keyboards but no Mk V or any other tron unfortunately. I also approached the edge of the stage after the concert to confirm.
One explanation is that maybe the tron was used in the tail end of the tour because the set list had changed in the last few shows, and these shows included more late 60's material. No doubt he brought it for the tour, it just wasn't used in too many performances.
