Mike Pinder Mellotron CD-Rom Question

Mike Pinder Mellotron CD-Rom Question

2007-03-25 by tastenhauer2002

Hi there,
the Pinder CD booklet lists Mellotron and Chamberlin sounds. Among
violin sounds there are MarkII Violins, Tron Violin Section, Tron 16
Violins, M300 Violins and Chamberlin 3 Violins. Now, what type of
violins have been used as 3 Violins in the famous M400 Mellotron (the
white one)?
Any Information would be helpful. Thanx

Re: On your CD tracks 9 thru 16 are of the 400 library. Track 12 is
self explanatory. Track 13, according to Sound Sales catalog, Violins,
Viola, Cello-full bodied rich string sound. The Chamberlin 3 violins,
Track 24 are close if not more robust than the strings on my 400.
After they stopped production of the 400 it seems they added a lot to
the sound library. When you ordered a 400 it came standard, at least
stateside, with A: 8 voice choir, B: 3 violins, C: Flute. My Streetly
built came with Viola in place of the choir which many did. Obviously
when they did the cd, someone thought it unnecessary to include.
Maybe it will be on the next cd whenever. Hope that helped,,,Doug

In the UK it was cello, 3 violins and flute.

#328 which I got in 1972 came with cello, violins, flute. The solo viola IS on the Pinder CD,
at least it is on mine.:)
The 400 violins were, I believe, standard MK2 violins but re-eq'd a bit for the 400
circuitry. Martin could tell us for sure. Supposedly the MK2 violins were actually the
original Chamberlin violin sound...the only sound that Mellotronics kept from the
Chamberlin 600s Fransen brought to the UK.

I've been told that #1145 rolled off the line in Nov.'73, and was originally
sent out with cello/3v/flutes, so your #886 has to be rather older - early
'73? Mind you, that depends on how things worked with Sound Sales, I
suppose. I've never quite understood this - were all M400s produced in the
UK, then some exported and 'improved' (cough, splutter) by SS?

Many thanx for your answers. One more thing:
What do you recommend as effects in combination with that samples?
Delay, reverb, EQ-settings?

No. Harry was up in arms about them having the sound. We have the 600
tapes on the reel that Bill brought over. The MKII violins were copied one note
at a time from the reel to reel set. Painstaking but neverthless this is how
it was done. You can hear the degredation from Harry's recordings to the
MKII violins. The resulting MKII master would have been, at a guess, two
generations down giving the violins that unique character.

Best,

Martin

1/2 correct.
The MK II violins is from the chamberlin but that sound didn't exist in the MK I library.
Harry gave them this sound via a master tape. So if that's the case, they wouldn't have taken it from the Chamberlin 600. Also using the actual tapes from the 600 wouldn't have been practical.

Mike Pinder Mellotron CD-Rom Question

2007-03-27 by Bruce Harvie

Hi all...

Does anyone have any inside info as to whether or not Volume II of the
Pinder samples will ever be released??

The website says "we are trying for an early summer release", but I guess
it's yet to be determined which summer we're talking about... ;-)

See: http://www.mellotron.com/prices.htm

Anyway, I'm a huge fan of the first set and would love to get my paws on
round 2....

I emailed Dave Kean a while back and asked the same question....he
wrote back saying don't hold your breath because they're working on
something even better(?) Write him and ask-see what he says
