Click on #14 - Rainy Day (the tiny speaker, not the title).

I saw these guys when they opened for The Kingsmen at Mountain Park in Massachussetts around 1965. Oops, forget I said that!!

Hi Bernie

Close, but suspect those are real strings - there's a quick glissando at one point, and the timbre isn't quite there. You saw 'em opening for the Kingsmen...? :-)

Hi Andy,

Yeah, it was the second concert I ever attended. The first was The Dave Clark Five. Opening acts for them were Bobby Comstock and the Counts, Little Anthony and the Imperials and The Shirelles; hosted by Murray the K (self-proclaimed fifth Beatle).

The Kingsmen were my favorite band at the time. First time I ever saw Sunn amplifiers, developed by the Kingmen's bass player, Norm Sundholm. They played all their hit . The drummer played so hard that he broke his Ludwig bass drum pedal in half (that's kick drum for those who are too young to remember). Ringing ears was a new experience to me .

I've wondered about him before - I mean, the GALL of the man! Were the band's genuine reactions to his arrogance ever recorded? So he played 'em on the radio. And...? If there was a 'fifth Beatle', it was obviously George Martin.

Must've been pretty cool :-) Who said punk was a late-'70s thing?

I think most folks would recognize Sammy Davis, Jr. as the 5th Beatle.

Fair point actually, Frank. Or maybe Freddie Garrity?

The fifth Beatle, if you would call anyone that, would have to be
Billy Preston (ever see George Martin play with them live? me neither).

Or even Regis Philbin - Joey Bishop's buddy, the hanger-on of a hanger-on.

No! Absolutely not!! Murray the K was the fifth Beatle! Everybody in New York (who listened to him) knows that. You can't lie about those kinds of things on the radio. It's the law or something.

Sounds to me like we might have needed a can of RAID. A few Beatles are OK. Multiples make me nervous.

Yeah, that's it... the one with talent.
But then there is something to be said for have no talent and a ton of money as opposed to having talent and no money.
