I read an interview with John Paul Jones where he said that it was bass recorders...recorded with the great Richard Harvey (of Gryphon fame). So...... I went to Lark In The Morning in San Francisco and bought one....and it sound exactly like that. There are two types of recorder- baroque and renaissance, the former has a more reedy kind of sound that is , perhaps, what you heard. Markus? You just went through recording these tape masters, what did you find?
