Most instruments ( excluding keyboards, most modern fretted instruments) don't fair well at either ends of the instruments ranges. Violins for instance become more noticably strident and out of tune when played further up in the register. Only three violins way up there would be shriekfest unless they play harmonics or are VERY good players.  Usually the ensemble expands to compensate. Safety in numbers, if you will. Similar with the winds and brass. Rick can attest to that. Even tougher with those to play at the bottom of the register.
