I have both a CV and a C3 but the CV has been violated electronically by myself to add crunchy percussion and no longer sounds "churchy" in any way. I know the guts pretty good on both and if there is a difference I would suspect it's in the frequency handling of the preamps and/or matching transformers rather than the tone generators. However this is armchair speculation, as there are some who specialize in these beasts and could probably put me in my place :) I originally got the CV (which was chopped already and somewhat road-weary) out of desparation at not being able to afford a C3, and at first considered it a poor approximation of the real deal, but as it turns out the BV/CV is quite a beefy-sounding Hammond. Apologies for the OT drift, but, uh it's like a mellotron because it's heavy and in a wood case and has a motor in it... - Gene -----Original Message----- From: Brundage, Jim [mailto:jpb@...] Sent: Friday, July 25, 2003 10:48 AM To: Pishock, Jimmy; Mellotronists@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [Mellotronists] Re: Hammond T Organ on Ebay - Tony Banks I know this is a mellotron forum but, with all this Hammond talk, I figure its safe to ask... I heard or read somewhere that the Hammond CV model (and all the "V" models) sound different than the B and C3's. (and T's and L's) Different tone generator makes it sound more "churchy" or warmer. Any truth to this? I have one with a trek II percussion and seems ok to me. I just attributed any difference to the fact that I am a guitar player and therefore relatively s__k when it comes to making a Hammond really shine. Anyone heard this before? Jim (M400 #917)
