Help with undercarriage crack 1965 1800GT

Help with undercarriage crack 1965 1800GT

2013-01-10 by Steve

Does anyone know how to handle a crack in the plywood above the muffler?
Looks like the muffler bottomed out and went into the plywood. See attached
pictures.

Also, the car sits very low and has trouble clearing driveway. Is there a
way to raise the car an inch or two?

Thank you

Steve,

I am sure that Larry Meadows can help. He lives in Tampa and has a friend
Ron McCloud who winters in Sarasota. They both have Marcos.

Give him a call on : 813 634 8559 and mention John Sutton.

Would it be possible to get to the area and cut out the bad section to
the nearest good joint surface?

Steve,
If you want to raise the car, a new set of shocks from Rory at Heritage, will give you a rise of at from 1 to 1.5 lnches, however, it will be a much stiffer ride. I replaced the shocks on Ron's 1970 and my 1970 Marcos' and we have about 3" road clearance under the seat pan. It is a bit pricey when you factor in the shipping, but I think you will be happy with the rise.

Best Regards,
Larry

That is very interesting rear subframe! I'm used to steel-framed Marcos cars without IRS.
Your damage doesn't look too bad. I would be making repairs with West System Epoxy as used in the wooden boat industry. I have used this product for numerous repairs on my Marcos.
Obviously, you will need to disassemble mechanicals around the damaged area for access, then grind and clean to find the extent of damage.

Steve

I've used a lot of West System Epoxy on my sail boat, West Marine stores
carry the product and they generally stock a great how to use book, which
explains all the various alternative mixes and additives.

Thanks
