Interesting price for a Mantis.
I think instead, I would buy a GT40, Lombo Miura and restore my Marcos GT to
as new standards.

The Lennon connection seems a bit of a stretch. If he didn't actually own
it, the the value is not there simply because he might have wanted to!
It will be interesting to see the actual selling price given the normal
price that a Mantis will usually fetch.

RE: [MarcosManiacs] 1970 Mantis for sale - expensive!

2001-10-09 by Jeff Caraway

Interesting history, but I think these people are a little nuts.
There are 1-off race cars out there from some of the most collectible
marques in the world, with documented racing history (not hear say that
someone WANTED to buy the car), that aren't fetching that kind of price.
And. why didn't they show a current picture of the interior? That looks
like a black and white photo from an article or something.

I'll agree with David on this one.
Much rather have a GT-40, Lambo, or Ferrari and a fully restore my
Marcos!

Just my 2cents,

Windshield Wiper motors and heater fan switches....

2001-10-09 by Jeff Caraway

Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what kind of Windshield Wiper motor (MG, Triumph,
part#???) is used in a Marcos?
Mine doesn't seem to be working, and the switch has power to it as well
as the harness plug, so I suspect it is the motor.
Also, my heater fan switch (the black rocker switch on the dash) is
busted. Can anyone tell me what type (MG, Triumph, part#???) of switch
is used?

Thanks,
Jeff

I've had switch problems also, but the switches can be taken apart and cleaned up. This has always worked for me though the years. If you do get part numbers let me know. MOSS Motors, LTD. part number 635-675 looks very close!

Yow! 2.5 million pounds! That's nearly $5 million. In that case, I'm making my Mantis available to the first Maniac mad enough to buy it, for only $1 million. And, if you pay cash ($100's, non-consecutive serial numbers), I'll deliver it to your door for no extra charge.

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Windshield Wiper motors and heater fan switches....

2001-10-09 by Jeff Caraway

I\u2019m afraid cleaning will not fix this one.

When I removed the switch, I found that the back was separated and the contact inside used to jumper the wires was gone.

It may be floating around in the dash somewhere, but even so, the switch will not stay together. I think a new one is definitely in order.

In keeping with the reality of this deal, and the dreamers behind it:

Ron:

I will let you know when I have printed off sufficient $100 bills

It will take a little longer than ususal since you want random serial

this "deal" brings to mind an old Everly bros song "Dre-e-e-am, dream,

Re: Windshield Wiper motors and heater fan switches....

2001-10-09 by D. Paul Dransfield

Jeff,

The dashboard swithes were originally fitted to a Jaguar, I believe,
(they may have been fitted to other cars as well) and they are almost
impossible to find new. I tried to get some during a trip to England
many years ago and found that the reference numbers had been
superceded a number of times and tracking them down was a time
consuming task. I had the most problem with the headlight switch,
which used to slowly melt inside due to the high current flowing
through it. I was fortunate enough to locate a new one and solved the
melting problem by fitting a relay in the curcuit. I haven't had a
problem since. I digress.

However, at the annual Ancaster British Car Flea Market and Show in
April, I have come across good quality second-hand switches for
around $10-$15. The insides of most of the switches is the same, so a
switch cover can be replaced by the old cover to reflect its use. If
you have a problem locating a switch, let me know and I'll see if I
can get one next April, if not before.

Regards,
Paul Dransfield

Hi Jeff,
Holden in England has a "ton" of switches for English Cars
including rocker switches for E Jags, XKJ etc. that include the wiper
switch etc. Their catalog of all sorts of neat replacement parts is
worth having at any rate. Contact me by email if you want their Web
site etc. I could also email you a scanned copy of the switches
