British Car week and other things

2002-05-23 by Mike Denman

Hi Maniacs,
May 25 through June 2 is British Car Week in the USA. The British Car Week started in response to an article in Road and Track Magazine written by Peter Egan. Peter, in his article, remarked that while he saw a lot of British sportscars at car shows, he never saw any being used on the highway and what a shame that was since they are really neat and at one time he saw a lot of British sportscars on the road. So... every year we have a British Car week. Get the Marcos out of the garage and drive it. Let people see it on the highway. Enjoy the experience!
Last week, Don Lattimer and I took our Marcos cars to the British car show in Dixon California. Dixon is about 1 hour and 30 minutes for me and probably 2+ hours for Don. The weather was threatening to rain as I left the house at 8:30 am. I arrived at the show first and Don arrived soon after. British Car Magazine had a vendor space so we moved the Marcos cars to either side of their space and that created a lot of interest. Lots of people and lots of questions. Shortly after lunch it started to rain pretty hard so everyone started leaving since the show was almost over anyway. On my way home I saw a number of accidents including a 6 car accident that occurred right in front of me.
This weekend I am headed to a track day at Laguna Seca race track in Monterey, CA. It should be fun. I have watched races at Laguna Seca since I was a child but this will be the first time that I have driven the track. Today I spent the day servicing the Marcos and getting it ready. Tomorrow I will wash and wax the car, put the numbers on the side, and head for the track tech inspection. We have the track all day Saturday and Sunday. I'll report on "how it went" when I get back.
Best regards,

Track day at Laguna Seca!!!!! Now I'm REALLY jealous. I wish I could
be there!

I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time. Watch the ground clearance as
you drop through the Corkscrew! :^)

I look forward to hearing your comments.

Cheers,

Mark

PS Mike, thanks again for sending over the British Car magazine. Good
article.
