Dave Thanks your words of wisdom and much the way I had decided to go already, i.e. underneath and inside. Re:- Pinto, the added problem is that the exhaust manifold is on the other side to the Xflow, adding to the problems. I have now sourced a number of alternatives 1600 Xflows so will purchase a spare, take my existing one out and have rebuilt to "good" spec. Unusually, it turns out from the previous owner, that the pistons are flat topped, when for the engine number and age they should have been the "bowl-in" type. Any comments??
