RE: [MarcosManiacs] Marcos Glass!!!

2002-06-17 by pauldransfield@iname.com

Hi guys,

Having gone through this exercise quite recently, I thought it appropriate
to add my two cents worth regarding this venture:-

1. The size of the crate required to transport two screens was quite
large, around 4 feet long, 3 feet high and 2 feet wide.

2. It would make sense to order all the screens at the same time, but
have them crated and shipped in groups depending on final destination. The
shipping cost is based on volume and weight so it wouldn't cost much more to
separate them that way, bearing in mind that my crate was bearly manageable
by two people.

3. By shipping them to their final destinations directly, Canadian
purchasers, for instance, would not have to incur two customs costs etc. and
the coordinator wouldn't have to be concerned about forwarding the screens
on, which would increasing the cost substantially.

4. The biggest problem I had was getting the screens made and having them
available for shipping. That took months. Months!!! The shipper I used had
them in my hands about two weeks after they were available. Once they
arrive, clearing customs is a snap and pickup straightforward as long the
truck is large enough.

Colin Feyerabend is the appropriate person to contact regarding the ordering
of the screens but it wouldn't hurt if someone else was available in the UK
to expedite matters. And for those with plastic rear screens mulling it
over, the glass ones are significantly, significantly, better and it would
be well worth the cost of joining this venture, particularly as the cost
would probably be somewhat less than if one was acquired later by itself.

For what it's worth.

Hi All,
I have watched the glass threads "unravel" here and thought that we might
need some organization here to get this going. (Please excuse me, if I step
on anyone's toes!)

OK, to get this glass thing sorted out....

First:
Do we want to place a group order for front and back Marcos glass?
Everyone that is interested, please reply to this thread marked "Marcos
Glass". (We have replies in so many threads, I lost track!)

Second:
If so, who wants to handle the interface with Colin?
As I see it, we may need someone in the UK to be the point man with Colin
(and keep the pressure on), and someone over here to coordinate efforts on
this side.

Third:
We need to find out if they are attainable. (The person in charge of the
contact with Colin should be able to find this answer)

Forth:
We really need to get an estimate in US dollars of how much it is going to
cost to get the things over here, so everyone knows what they're up for.
(This includes a manufacturing estimate, customs (if applicable?), and
shipping to the US)
Part of this would be the need to figure out if we want to have them shipped
to one location in the US, and sort them out here. Or have them shipped to
each location from the UK.

Am I forgetting anything????
