RE: [MarcosManiacs] Re: 1600 GT Chassis repairs and alternative engine

I echo Mark's words.
The advantage in rolling the car on it's side (Normally on to an old mattress) is accessibility. If the work is to the floor panels I would suggest lifting the car as high as possible and work from the inside and underneath.
I've not done the foot well floors but have done the boot floor, and attacked it this way. (The biggest problem is the resin that runs down your arms as you finish off the bonding in!!).
As for the engine swap, never seen a pinto in a wooden chassis, the biggest problems I would see is the height of the engine, and lack of a power bulge in the bonnet that would give room for the cam. Also the exhaust manifold will be a problem, its tight on the 1600, the increased diameter for a 2.0 will make is difficult, but not impossible. But most certainly a specialist job, perhaps even going over the rear of the bell housing.
Cheers,
Dave.

Only really a case that it'll be EASIER to work on the car on it's
side (I'm assuming you've got a wood chassis? If not, there's even
less reason I guess) rather than NOT possible. If you can get
sufficient light and clearance, I can't see why you couldn't do
repairs from underneath, provide it's the, non-structual, floor.

Never done it, but once drove a 4 cylinder, 2 litre Marcos with quick
shift box and it was great, so I'd recommend trying it. Most later
Marcos I think had the OHC engine. Is this the Pinto? If so, I'm sure
the one I drove came out of a Sierra, box and all. Alan Fereday of
Fereday cars (www.feredaycars.co.uk) owned and built the one I drove.
Probably worth giving him a ring.

Cheers,

Mark
