San Fernando Valley - CA Logic Users meeting

San Fernando Valley - CA Logic Users meeting

2006-06-25 by Joseph Bartone

Hi,
I am a new logic user (PRO) having switched from Pro-Tools. I am interested in meeting u
with other composer/producers using logic at the begining and intermediate levels for
discussions on composition, producing and arranging.

I was part of other such groups in my home town of Providence RI. These were meetings of
all the arts together. We found conections like these help foster creativity and and
inspiration.

I am thinking about late July - maybe as simple as meeting on hte patio of a Starbucks, and
just introducing ourselves.

If you are interested, feel free to write me back.

thanks

There will be a big logic meeting this upcoming thursday at Apple Store in South Coast Plaza. Last month they gave away free sample cd's of apple loops and other goodies. Its about 40-50 miles from the valley, but if you can make the trip, its free and there are a lot of people. Its in the same mall as Borders, Crate and Barrel, etc.

here is the apple store :

http://www.apple.com/retail/southcoastplaza/week/20060625.html

basically take 405 south (perhaps other freeways to get to 405 south)
Off on Fairview, turn left (North) and cross over the freeway.
Turn right at the first street. Proceed down a mile or so, just before the
street deadends into South Coast Plaza there is another shopping center
on the left called Crystal Court. You can see the Borders and Crate and Barrel
very prominently there. The Apple store is on the ground level
about halfway back.

Darren is the weekly Logic teacher and he will be there, plus an Apple trainer
and Orren Merton, one of the moderators for the LUG.

More on the subject

I received an initiation to attend a seminar of Logic users at a Mac store.

I think these things are probably great to attend, but I am not really looking for a \u201chidden product pitch.\u201d I worked MI retail and basically believe these things are more interested in test marketing the latest and greatest.
I am hoping to find a few producers who are more indie minded.
People like myself that DIY and love the process of writing and recording.

Certainly any discussion is always welcome, but for me, I am just interested in getting a few tips, some new angles and a few laughs.

What do you think?

Joe

you are always welcome to create your own group, recruit and announce
meetings here. the meeting at south coast is not an intimate group of pro's, but its
not a product pitch either. there are no apple corporate suits there, nor any
sales or marketing people. I have known Darren, the logic teacher, and he
started as a logic user producing his own techno music, then got hired by Apple
to be the logic teacher there. So he is an enthusiastic logic user first and
foremost. He is very open to questions and discussions - a very cool guy. We
occasionally discuss non-Apple products too such as plugins and virtual
instruments. The logic trainer (another fellow coming to this special engagement)
might be trying to stir up some business for himself, but you don't have to buy
into that. And of course Orren Merton wants to sell his books I would imagine.
But I don't think you need fear any hard core sales presentations. You can
always meet some people there, who are more pro and potential collaborators.

Did you know there is a Logic users in LA group on Yahoo already? I have not
seen much action on it for months but there are others in the LA!
