Hi again,

good to see that problem was solved. As for the spiking sound, if your 
battery is dead, the synth will reset to defaults every times it's 
turned on.
The problem is, the LOWER default sound isn't an actual preset, but just 
random stuff. Try to see if the spiking is still present with different 
presets.
Also, check if the LFO speed changes the spiking pattern. If not, it 
might be the chorus chip, since you say it amplifies the problem.
