Problems with my new SX-240

2009-09-25 by Paul

Hello there,

I joined the group as I had recently won a SX-240 off Ebay.

It had a missing Patch Selector button - but otherwise looked okay.

However when it arrived and after some time testing it I found the following two problems.

1. The machine switches itself off when I try to load the Preset Voices - the Display reads LOAD for a few seconds and then the power cuts off.

2. There is an regular, periodic electronic "spiking" from the outputs - inaudible when the synth is played through headphones but when reverb is applied it exagerates it (even when both Osc's truned off the spiking is there)
This obviously makes it practically useless for recording.

Otherwise the machine is in a reasonable condition - It does have the original Time Bomb Battery fitted - there is no sign of corrosion though.
I've programmed a few voices and the memory is retaining them.

I'm quite disappointed - I got a good feeling from this synth and was looking forward to playing and recording with it.

Obviously there appears to have been only a few of these made so I should imagine that most emergent faults are likely to be unique.

Has anyone suffered from the above?

Regards,
Paul
