Help with Eagle PCB

Help with Eagle PCB

2009-01-26 by Ken Stuempges

Hello all

I have just started using Eagle, (Version 5.4) and so far so good
until I am ready to print out the PCB pattern, in preparation for
toner transfer.

I cannot figure out how to change all the pattern color to black
(maybe it won't matter since I will be using a monochrome Laser
printer - which I do not have yet)

The other thing is I cannot find out how to get rid of the component
shapes from the PCB pattern. All the resistor outlines, cap symbols,
etc. If I try to delete any of the above, the pad area for the part
also disappears.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ken

When you create the copper layers, you use the CAM procesosr
which allows you to scale, select layers, mirror, negative, etc.
You can then create output files as gerber, postscript, etc.

You might want to take a look at kicad, I have used Eagle and like it also, you may like ..also after looking at it, it is also good
for all around board making and it is pretty extensive in all that it does as well.

The libraries are very extensive as well.

Print options:

Black, solid.

Mirror is needed for the top and silk screen layers.

Layers view: None, then add bottom, dimension, holes, and pads.

For top: none, then add top, dimension, holes and pads.

If you use vias, they must be in for both layers.

Thanks to all

I'm sure this is somewhere in Eagles documentation, and I did not look
hard enough.

Now as soon as my printer shows up, I'm ready to go

Thanks again

Ken

Go to the following menu to hide the components layout
View->Display/hide layers and unselect the layers you don't want to
show.
I just unselect all then select the layers <Bottom, via, Pads>
if you have double layer PCB then you can choose <Top, Via, Pads>

to get ready for printing do the following.
1- File->Export->Image.
2- Export your image.
3- Open it on MS Paint.
4- Press Ctrl+I
5- Save your image again
6- Print it.

Regrads,

Re: Help with Eagle PCB

I followed the below steps, but can find no program that will print the negative scaled correctly.

I also tried using the CAM output set to PS_Inverted (postscript), but can't find a simple way to print post scripts files.

any suggestions on either??

I'm assuming you are on a Windows platform? You might check out Ghostscript and GSView for Windows (http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/doc/GPL/gpl864.htm). You might also look for ps2pdf -- if there is a Windows version?? With these tools, you can convert your postscript output into a PDF file. Ghostscript also lets you do a bunch of other things with postscript.

(All of this is built-in to most Linux distro's, by the way -- one of the many benefits of going Linux! Oops, sorry -- I forgot we weren't supposed to include religious posts ... :))

Thanks,

I had downloaded Ghostscript but the command line threw me. GSView takes the mystery out of it.

The output is accurate too. Check with my calipers.
I used CAM output set to PS_Inverted to make the post script file.

I am pretty sure the image export is just a screen capture. The image size changed with the window size.
