Homebrew PCBs

Hello all

I have just started using Eagle, (Version 5.4) and so far so good
until I am ready to print out the PCB pattern, in preparation  for
toner transfer.

I cannot figure out how to change all the pattern color to black
(maybe it won't matter since I will be using a monochrome Laser
printer - which I do not have yet)

The other thing is I cannot find out how to get rid of the component
shapes from the PCB pattern.  All the resistor outlines, cap symbols,
etc.  If I try to delete any of the above, the pad area for the part
also disappears.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
