OT - Epson 3800 Printer Availability & Merchant Satisfaction

OT - Epson 3800 Printer Availability & Merchant Satisfaction

2006-11-15 by jarrrush

It is finally, thankfully, time to retire my Epson 1270, which I have
attempted to use for color and black and white printing for years. I
am in the market for an Epson 3800 Pro printer and I temporarily have
an Amazon Prime account (meaning free shipping on this item). Does
anyone have experience with purchasing photo equipment from Amazon and
specifically were you satisfied with the amount of time it took to get
your gear? I am tempted with the free shipping, but I
need the printer before the holidays and wonder whether Amazon's
access to photo equipment, new to the market, and not yet available,
is better or worse, compared to a dedicated-photo vendor, for example,
B&H.

Thank you,
John

John, inkjetart has free shipping also for this amount--of course it
will be 'overland'--as I'm sure it will be for Amazon. Others I know
have used Amazon with good success for cameras and lenses and had good
luck with returns when needed--in fact I think some of the HP9180
people ordered there. However, you may be right about who gets the
printer first. I feel sure the larger retailers like inkjetart, B & H,
and others as larger Epson dealers will see them first. I have ordered
with a deposit from inkjetart (who I use for other things also).

Hello John,

I just got a newsletter from a dealer stating that Epson announced
today it will begin shipping on December 1st, and that it will take
2-3 weeks for the printers to get through the pipeline to customers
 (Epson->distributors->dealers->customers).

So the main question may be who can get it to you in time and whether
the dealer has already pre-sold their initial allotment.

Clayton
