Fine Art Pearl

Fine Art Pearl

2006-03-19 by edrudolpho

I'd like to learn about the Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl. Is anyone here testing it? If so,
is it, like the Silver Rag, optimized for the K3 inksets? Or is someone getting good
results with other inks?

I emailed Hahnemuhle to see if I could have some samples to be a beta
tester and compare with Silver Rag. The project head Christensen, said
they would be interested in having me test future products but this
one was already out of beta tests. That sounded strange to me since no
one I know has even seen it except Jimmy Doyle at a trade show and he
doesn't even have any to play with yet.

So, it's all a mystery to me, but evidently it is a little smoother
than Silver Rag but is not a cotton based paper but rather an alpha
cellulose sheet, like darkroom fiber. I'm interested in what kind of
sheen it may exhibit. I'm sure Hahnemuhle doesn't want to give this
market away to Crane. May the best man win. Personally the word
"Pearl" worries me a little. It brings to mind the Cibachrome Pearl
which was a sad surface.

Hi Gang

OK Here you go.. hahnemuhle Pearl is an Alpha Cellulose Paper and Its a
Thinner sheet at 285 gsm and a much whiter shite that the OBA Free 100%
Cootton Silver Rag. I Only saw two sheets of it at PMA and it had the same
B&W Image printed on both sheets..From what I Hear they are 6-8 weeks away
will see.

As of today 17 & 44 inch rolls of Silver rag have been Shipped.. This week
24 inch rolls will ship (I Hope) Cut Sheets are expected the week of march
27th

Innova F-Type Gloss will be available In cut Sheets ( We Hope) The Last week
Of March or 1st week Of April The Innova F-Type Gloss is also Alpha
Cellulose and has been tested and Talked about on the lists ( DaVinc) as
its already hit the street in th UK..

So There you have it.. I Belive They will all have similar Price Points. All
Have a different base sheet color and all produce a real nice print from
what I Have seen.

(I Have printed the Silver Rag & Innova )

Hope this Helps

Apparently it has a lot of OBs, so possibly a bit blueish. I'll be very interested in the Innova
offering, could sit nicely in the middle.

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Fine Art Pearl

2006-03-20 by stephenpho@aol.com

I saw the Innova at PMA in Orlando. The surface seemed to have a more
pleasing surface texture than Silver Rag. But everything's so new who knows?
The Innova rep swiped my card and said he would send samples.

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Fine Art Pearl

Answer from Hahnemuehle DE

We can not say that this new Hahnemühle Paper is only optimized for
K3 inks
but what we can say is, that this paper is ideal with Photo Black
inks as
prints dry faster with them and any bronzing effect can be reduced when
using these inks.
