Windex in color cart when printing Black Only

Windex in color cart when printing Black Only

2004-02-17 by Johnny Eades

If I recall correctly, Tyler Boley asked of the group if anyone was
using Windex in the color cartridge when it ran out of other inks? I
don't recall any answer or if Tyler posted further information. If
anyone has tried this, please let the group know the results.

The logic behind this is since in printing Black Only, only the
black cart is used; why waste ink and money for the hextone inksets
if it is not going to be used. Since there must be ink in the two
carts for the printer to operate, and in daily use, both of the
carts are charged upon powerup and even in printing BO the printhead
from time to time moves to the extreme left and purges the nozzles.

Alan,

Based on your recommendation, I will try this.

Johnny, why not just use the $5 dye ink carts from MIS in the color
position for your 1280. Not quite a cheap as Windex but you can print
color then whenever you have the need.

I find color handy for when the kids send me a JPG that I want to show
to my wife or when I have color text. None of that lasts for more than
a few days, so archivalness is never an issue. But having a color
option is a bit nice. BTW, my color is in an extra printer, a 890. My
1280 has UT-2.

Have you considered a BO CFS? You'd only need the K cart and one tube
plus a 4 oz. bottle of Eboni.

Johnny,

I filled a used color cart for doing BO - works fine. There is enough tint
left to do nozzle checks.

Hello Bob,

Thanks for another option,I never even thought of that. I just
couldn't justify spending money on ink I never would use again. I'm
dedicated to this black Only printing for all my images and couldn't
do a mind shift into text printing. Thanks again.
