Personal print exchange?

Personal print exchange?

2003-09-15 by Matt Betea

Hello again,
So far I haven't been able to get a good print from my setup (Epson
1280, MIS VM ink) so my next idea was to try and seek help personally
from someone who has been using the same setup and getting good
results. If one would be willing, I would like to send them prints
I've done along with the steps I've done in my workflow for each
image (written out on the back). There would be no need to return
these prints all I would ask for is some insight on maybe what I'm
doing in my process that is causing this posterization and lack of
tone. Or something I could change. Of course I would pay shipping
costs. I understand people are busy, so if you are willing please
just respond here or email me. Thank you so much.

I'm using the same set up, and getting very good results with the MW
Roark curve. I'll take you up on your offer/need. Contact me privately
with more details if you still want to do it and we can exchange prints
and files.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Matt

It can be frustrating at first, especially when you feel like you have
little basis for saying that one print is better than another.

Where are you located? The best thing would be to find someone local with
whom to share techniques, war stories, etc.

Having used both the Roark curves and Roy Harrington's QuadToneRip, I can
definitely recommend QTR as a much easier and more reliable method (IMO).
Having said that, the most important thing you can do to achieve good
results is to document your method, and print out a step wedge (if you
haven't done so already). Seeing your prints, in the absence of this
documentation, will be like shooting in the dark- unlikely to be productive.

Good Luck with this
