"Carbon on Canvas" B&W print show in Sept. (shameless plug)

2017-08-11 by roark.paul@...

My latest exploration of substrates we B&W printers might use involves using carbon pigments on canvas. I will be displaying the results of this exploration at Gallery Los Olivos (45 minutes north of Santa Barbara, CA) in September. See http://www.gallerylosolivos.com/Roark-GalleryLosOlivos-Featured-Show-Sept-2017.pdf and http://www.gallerylosolivos.com/Roark.htm. There will be a reception on Sept. 10 (2-4), but since I live fairy close, if anyone on this list is coming to see it at another time, I'm more than happy to meet at the gallery to discuss the work.

The canvases on display are fairly large. I used 36 inch rolls of both Epson Matte canvas natural and Innova ultra gloss. I used the variable tone versions of either Eboni-6 (for example, see http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/3880-Eboni-Variable-Tone.pdf) or the glossy carbon version (see, for example http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Glossy-Carbon-Variable-Tone.pdf).

Rather than stretch the canvas, I adhered it to acid free foam core using Scotch 77, and then framed the work. The matte canvas is displayed under acrylic. The glossy canvas is un-glazed, being first sprayed with Premier Art's Print Shield. My workflows are simple; any photographer with a printer can do similar work.

This list isn't used much anymore, but I suspect there are still a number of us old dedicated B&W types out there. I hope a few of you can make it to the show.

Regards,

Paul
