Re: New Epson A3+ Four Inkset Printer

I don't have experience with the 1100 or any of the 4-ink printers, but I'd also say you should look very closely at the 1400. 6-ink and 1.5 pL drops makes it an amazing B&W printer (compared with the 3 pL drops of the 1100). $189 with free shipping from Amazon makes it not much more than the 1100 at $129. Keep in mind, a box of quality 13x19 paper is going to be $80 minimum!

Because of the small drop size the 1400 can do amazingly good prints with just 100% Eboni (no dilutions) or very smooth prints with just one additional dilution. This makes either buying or mixing dilutions easy as you don't have to do so many. You do probably want to use QTR instead of the epson driver for these approaches. On the other hand if you really only want to do a C4 approach the 1100 would be fine - as long as it can handle thicker papers. The 1400 has a track record of being able to handle fine art papers when fed carefully, I'm not sure anyone has experience with the 1100 yet.

Paul Roark has lots of info on workflows for 1.5 pL printers and I believe is currently using a few 1400's.
