Curt: As others have noted, going to an all-black ink set is the best solution to solve your problem. However, another thread a while back, discussed using the color inks in an Epson 1400/1430 to achieve reasonably good results that did not have any odd tones. The thread is posted here http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint/message/106401. I think there may be some information you can glean from this. I tested the process and compared it to UT-14 ink. The UT-14 ink is better, but not by as much as you would think. For occasional black and white prints, I think the methodology is adequate.
