Re: [DTXpress] New poll for DTXpress

2000-12-07 by Richard C. MacDonald

My sentiments exactly. We're not a blind focus group. If a company wants to
know about us to improve their products (and I hope they do), they should
ask outright and be up front about it. Either that or just go back through
the archives. There's enough material there to keep a product development
team busy for years.

Later,
Rick

Re: New poll for DTXpress

2000-12-07 by garyduke@idirect.com

uh, I dont know what you pdk and vcrmac are so taken aback by here, I
am just a DTXpress user like yourselves, who thought it would be fun
to make use of the polls feature of this egroups board. If you had
checked the creator of the poll, and searched his (my) messages, you
would have noticed I am just a regular user like yourselves.

While I am flattered that my questions were interpreted as
professionally-oriented, I was merely curious as to whether
DTXpress owners generally own one or more acoustic kits (i myself own
a Yammy HipGig and a Tama Rockstar double-Kick kit), and curious as
to whether anyone else was even a tad worried about being left behind
when newer devices like the DTXtreme come out, and whether, because
the DTX is realitively cheap, if they would proabably just keep it as
a kit to leave at the rehearsal space, etc.

I imagine there are many drummers on this board who were wondering
the same things as me. If you aren't one of them, you dont have to
enter your vote... geez.

I admit that an actual Yammy Drums employee (gasp) may come upon the
poll and gather seeeeeeecret eeenformation from it and use it
to help Yammy Drums make meeeelions of dollars of our unwitting
amateur internet poll research, but I'm afraid thats beyond our
control. Its also highly unlikely that Yammy would change its e-drums
course based on our little informal egroups poll.

So vote if you like, and just have fun sharing in the DTXpress egroup
experience.

Cheers,

Gary

Re: [DTXpress] Re: New poll for DTXpress

2000-12-07 by Mark T. Owen

No problem here Gary... I got it right away so i cast a vote. I too wonder about the rapid changes in e-drum development. I had been away from the gear thing for some time: happy with my two Gretsch kits, and not playing much anyway. Then found myself with a need for a "silent" practice device. Elated to find the DTXpress and even considering incorporating the DTX into my regular stage set-up for effects, additional snare drums, latin percussion, etc. So I guess we've come a long way since the Simmons stopsigns.

Funny story: I met a Yamaha guy at a drum festival event and asked him a couple of questions, that he couldn't answer. I told him about our discussion group, and the website. He had no idea that either existed, didn't seem terribly interested and passed me over to the drummer who was about to do the DTXpress demo. The "demo" consisted of 15 minutes of playing the factory preset kits and songs. The guy had obviously not spent any time with the kit to find out what it is capable of !! ( OK, it's not that funny...)

So Yamaha: if you are listening, (I doubt it) wake up and smell the cawfee. You want user feedback ?? We got it right here ! And hire demo guys who actually know about your product! duh!

Lovely work troops... loved your early dance steps.

Re: [DTXpress] Re: New poll for DTXpress

Gary,
No problem. I wasn't taken aback by the poll, just wanted to know why
someone wanted the info. I'm naturally suspicious as I'm a product developer
(not music or computer) and am always trying to find out more about people
who use stuff that my team works on. A poll like the one you set up would be
a very useful way to do this...

I'll fill it out, no sweat,
Rick

kick pedal dropping beats poll.

Hi... Please fill this out even if you never had a problem with dropping beats.
choosing the 1st question only also has meaning too!!!

After searching the messages and changing alot of settings with no
definitive solutions, I have come to the conclusion that the problem with
the dtxpress dropping beats from the kick pedal is widespread and has
not necessarily been solved (not for me anyway!lol. )

With your help I would like use this poll to try to determine:

1. how widespread the problem is,
2. whether any of the solutions given have helped,
3. whether the kind of pedal makes a difference
4. whether the kind of controller makes a difference
5. if there is any grounding or static issues present.
and some others

The more of us that complete this poll the better the
results will be, so please fill it out even if you never had this problem

Please, choose any of these statements that apply to you;

o NO, I have not had problems with the kick pedal missing beats
o Yes I have had problems with the kick dropping beats
o NO given solution has helped
o Yes a given solution helped
  o My controller is a DTXpress I
o My controller is a DTXpress II
o My controller is a DTXpress III
o My controller is a DTXpress IV
  o My kick pad is a kp65
  o My kick pad is a kp60
o My kick pad is a pintech
o My kick pad is a DD502 kick
o My kick pad is a other
o Changing trigger rejection setting helped
o Changing trigger self rejection setting helped
o Changing the pad type setting helped
  o Changing the gain helped
o Changing the pad to a pintech or other pad helped
  o Repairing the pad helped
o Moving the kit onto a carpet helped
o Moving the kit off of a carpet helped
o Adding a drum patch to the pad helped
o Protecting the drum pad from static helped
o This an intermittent problem (comes and goes)
o I contacted Yamaha and they were able to help

DTXpress group:

My pads still look like new or cracked and creased?

In response to a query from someone looking at a second hand kit, it would be useful to know what is "normal" use for a kit. This poll is probably only relevant if you have been playing the kit quite a bit - a new kit will hopefully look like new!

  o Pristine
o Just a few stick marks
o Getting rather creased on the surface
  o A few cracks
o Creased, cracked and decidedly unwell
