Newbie - Some DTXpress related questions...

2003-06-17 by dtx2member

First off, I had to perform a factory reset yesterday so I lost all
of my kits. I didn't have the option of downloading my kits via
DTXchange or Dumpster. I noticed in the "file" section that there
was a zip for Alesis .sysex. I friend of mine has a Alesis D5 which
has some great hi-hat samples. Can I upload some of those sounds in
to the DTXpressII?

Also, has anyone used the DTXreme brain? I am considering
purchasing a used one if I can find one.

Hi,

Sorry about the loss of your custom kits. How's your memory? You
can't add new sounds to the DTXpress' sample database, and it's
highly unlikely that Alesis' sysex is compatible with Yamaha's
(unless I'm mistaken--always a genuine possibility). Good luck
finding the DTXtreme brain at all, and then at a reasonable price.
Every so often one shows up on ebay, and last I noticed, Midwest
Percussion, usually a compassionate seller, had them new for over
$800--way too much. You shouldn't have to pay more than $600 or so
for one at this point, and even less if it's been through the wars
already. Yamaha is supposed to be coming out with at least one new
module after summer NAMM; it will probably have better removable
storage options than the discontinued model. I'd wait, unless you
are sure that the old DTXTU meets your forseeable needs.

Thank you for the feedback. Like you said, I think I'll wait to see
what this new brain will be capable of doing before I invest in the
DTXreme.

By the way,

I noticed that there is no way of hiding your email address when posting. Should I worry about possible spam attackes on this email (which is on my profile)? Or should I set-up a different email address or something?

Is there a work-around in the mean time. Can I set-up a mail account on MSN and use that as my primary account for the user group membership??
