Iron Cobra Adjustment questions...

On my Iron Cobra pedals, it states you can increase and decrease the tension. I just increased the tension and I like the way it feels, more loose. I'm going for speed here, so I hope this was the right choice. Also, the beaters have balancers on them. I moved them all the way to the top from all the way to the bottom. What will the balancers do for me? Also, I brought the beaters closer to the bass drum head to decrease the time it takes for them to strike. I'm going in the right direction for speed? Thanks!
