Cymbal Pad PCY65S Won't Work!!!

Cymbal Pad PCY65S Won't Work!!!

2002-11-23 by jadiebooshkie

Just got DTExpress II...have the dual zone cymbal plugged into jack
outlet "6 RIDE" (cymbal is PYC65S)..I CAN'T get ANY sound from this
cymbal...if I pull out the jack going into the #6 outlet (using a
stereo jac) I get the "ping" sound of a ride, even though I am not
hitting the cymbal pad, I have adjusted the output sensitivity screw
on cymbal pad AND tried plugging it into the "Crash"
outlet...NOTHING works!! Do I have a bad cymbal pad AND/OR a bad
outlet on the drum trigger??!!...I am totally frustrated!! When I
hit this pad...the trigger does not acknowledge it...like it doesn't
exist!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

"Input Jack 6 Ride" by default is set for pad PYC65
which is the ride cymbal - if you want PYC65S to work
on this jack, you'll need to change the pad type
setting for input 6 to the PYC65S. It's all new to me
too but I think this is the right answer. Hope that
helps - Mike

Just noticed you said you tried the cymbal in the
CRASH input too and it didn't work. It seems it
should've worked correctly in that input - so I am not
sure now - but I am pretty sure some of the
nice/knowledgeable/helpful people on this group will
have an answer for you. Good luck - Mike

Any pad will work in any input. However if you want the proper
characteristics for a particular pad or purpose, you need to set it
for the proper pad type. These should already be factory set. But just
as a check, plug the pad into any other input. If it still doesn't
work, try a different cable.Try to use a stereo cable,but even a
non-stereo cable will tell you something. The fact that you get a
'ping' when un-plugging tells you that the input is working. Probably
a bad cable.

Re: [DTXpress] Cymbal Pad PCY65S Won't Work!!!

2002-11-23 by Walt

I know how it feels when new stuff doesn't work right,
but I would suggest we do some structured problem
isolation to see what's happening. The potential is
that the pads itself is not working, that the cable is
not working, or that the module is not working. From
what I've seen in your posts, I would bet on the pad.
The reason I say that is you said that you heard a
PING when you unpluged the cable (from the pad end I
assume). That tells me that the cable and module are
most likely OK, but humor me.

First, we going to swap the pads. Swap the suspect
pad with one that is working properly!. Unplug the
cables at the pad end (as opposed to the module end)
and swap them. If the symptom follows the pad, then
chances are it is the pad that's not working. Make
sure if it has a sensitivity adjustment, that it is
set to full. Call your dealer and have them order you
a replacement. If the symptom does not follow the
pad, then swap the cables back to their original
position, and try the next step.

Assuming that the pad is working, now swap the cables
(again, with a known working pad) at the module end.
If the symptom follows the cable - nuke it and get
another one. If the symptom does not follow the
cable, then swap them back to their original positions
and go to the next step.

In the module , since this is a new setup I would
reset the module to factory defaults first. If that
doesn't correct it, you may have to talk with your
dealer.

I had the same problem with my Kick cable,it kept cutting out and
and was playing at illregular times,as stereo cables are harder to
find in the UK.I had to order a replacement from Yamaha, the kick
plays now plays like a dream, but faulty cables are not uncommon with
E-Drums.
