Well it certainly has his signature on it now (and my Evolver is MINE, not anyone's . . (and my other one too)) :)
I agree about the faster attack on increase velocity though. Can't argue with that.

Well, it made sense to Dave, and let's face it, the Evolver is HIS
synth! ;) ;

Following is his reponse to an email in which I raised the issue:

"Actually, not a bug. In the old version attack went faster with more
mod, so now decay and release are the same polarity. It's a throw-
back to keyboard control of envelopes, where usually with a harder
key strike you would want faster envelope times. Not always, of
course, but it doesnt matter all that much, since you can control it
just fine either way."

Re: [Evolver] Re: OS 2.0 - New Envelope Parameter Mod Destinations

2003-11-26 by Craig Wiper

Hi guys, I finally took my Evolver back out of the box and want to revisit using it. I've decided to try and perform the updates, but I'm having trouble downloading the sysex files for the new 2.0 Evolver software. Can anyone help me out?
I'm using Midi-Ox and everytime I try and load the first PIC file, halfway through the load I get an error message telling me that the port is transmitting data to the device, wait until the data has been transmitted, and then try again.
I have no clue what's going on. I'd hate to screw up my chips.
Can someone give me a detailed step-by-step to make sure I've got ALL setting correct before attempting this proceedure again?
Thanks,
Craig W.

I don't know if this will help you guys or not, but realize that the
value(s) you apply with a modulator (sequencer, LFO, AT, etc.) to
affect one of the new Envelope parameter mod destinations works
OPPOSITE of the actual envelope parameters themselves.

For example, when you want a longer Envelope Attack, you INCREASE the
value of the Attack, right? However, if you apply a POSITIVE value
to Envelope Attack via a modulator, you will DECREASE the Attack time.

That seemed backward to me, but Dave confirmed that was his intent.
It all works fine (at least for me!), just as soon as you realize
what's going on.

these settings for the sequencer set absolute values overriding the

maybe i havent experiemented enough.

I don't really understand that error message. It makes it sound like
you were trying to do some utility in MIDI-OX while it was transmitting.

Anyway, I would suggest the following:
1) transmit directly into the Evolver via MIDI
2) don't run any MIDI back into your PC
3) open Sysex view in MIDI-OX and load the file
4) then right click and select "send" (or select form the drop-down menu)
5) a window will pop up and will start counting the number
of bytes transmitted; the Evo will also start its counting
6) only when the window has disappeared and the Evo has rebooted should
you try to do anything else

If that doesn't work, please detail your setup a bit more and
when/where/how it gives you the error messages.

Good luck!
Joe

Thanks Joe. I'll see what happens after trying your suggestions.
