AN200 OS 1.03

AN200 OS 1.03

2004-12-08 by Dan

I see that there is a v1.03 OS update for the AN200 available at the
yamaha.com site. Does anyone know what this update adds and/or
corrects? I was a little bit surprised to see that because back
when there was still an uproar about AN200/DX200the note skipping
bug Yamaha said that the AN200 (and DX200 for which there is no new
OS) did not have an updateable OS (?)

(I've also contacted Yamaha to try to find out how to access the 30+
arpeggio patterns that are said to be built into the PLG-150AN
board. I'll also try playing around with the expert editor again
this evening to see if the arpeggio feature is just buried somewhere
that I missed.)

editor, in upper right corner, click on "detail" button next to

step sequencer a lot more fun than arpeggiator patterns, but takes a
while to learn to program effectively.

I went to that section where the step sequencer is but I didn't see
the arpeggiator editing page. I'll check that out though.

I like arpeggios because you can easily transpose on the fly by just
changing the chords you're holding.

generator page is arpeg section. It
has "type", "subdivide",and "keyboard mode". Main editor page has the
tempo knob, hold, and Arpeg on/off. One cool thing you can do with the
sequencer is "pattern select/note shift". It splits the keyboard, and
each key to left of split will trigger a different assigned sequence
pattern, and keys to right of split will shift the pitch of the
sequence.

I don't recall if there was a 'read me' included with the .MID file
for that OS update - you might download and see. Otherwise, suggest
you email YCA and ask...

the direct link is very long, so i'll put the step-by-step directions
here (i would shorten the url by going to tinyurl.com, but those
temporary links won't help someone who discovers this thread, say, a
year from now)...

1. go to www.yamaha.com
2. click on "usa"
3. click on "search"
4. change the top search option to "search all types"
5. click on "include archived content"
6. search for keyword "an200"

the resulting list includes instructions for installing os 1.03 and
the midi file that contains the os.

i would have put the update in the files section, but since this is an
an1x site and i'm a newbie, i don't know what the protocol is.

hope this helps...

The link to the AN200 OS update is available on the FAQ and can be
added to the Links page here at Yahoo! Groups. Please leave Yamaha's
file on Yamaha's server.

I'm curious - What does OS 1.03 change/add/correct on the AN200?
There's not a "read me" in the download file.

Oops, that's what I get for not reading the posts sequentially.
I'll ask Yamaha customer support what OS v1.03 does. (I wouldn't
even bother if it were Roland but that's another story.)

Here is the direct link using TinyURL!

http://tinyurl.com/4j49a

Tiny URL! is a terrific resource for those unwieldly and long URLs (thanks for the tip Peter!)

http://www.tech-geeks.org/tinyurl/

and here is the full link (which has been added to the Links section here at Yahoo! Groups)

I got the Expert Editor working with my AN200 now and I see where
the arpeggiator controls are but I can't get any arpeggios going.
Am I doing something wrong or will the arp. functions just not work
with the AN200?

I wonder if it might have something to do with the Clock Source. Have you experimented
with synchronizing to an external source vs. the internal clock?

Re: AN200 arpeggiator/sequencer

Here's the word directly from Yamaha customer service: The PLG-
150AN arpeggiation cannot be used via MIDI as I was trying to do
with my AN200 connected to a controller keyboard. It must come from
local control withing a keyboard that is designed to access that
feature on the PLG-150AN card. : (

On a brighter note, I'm still really pleased with a lot of the
AN200's sounds when using the AN200 editor and loading "best of"
patches. IMO "Voices" sounds better/fuller on the AN200 than the
original patch did on the JX8-P.
