Or, you just open it up and remove the PLG150-AN card inside...

Havn't checked it myself, but as far as I know, yes. There has been som
discussion about that on this list, and if my memory serves me right, the
conclusion was that there are indeed PLG-boards inside the AN200s and
DX200s.

Anyway, no big problem to find out I guess. Just open it up and have a look.

Seb,

Please edit your posts before hitting send! You quoted the entire thread - this is not
proper netiquette and is inconsiderate of the list. Thanks in advance.

Not having seen the interior of an AN200, I can imagine the 'wire' is similar to an ATA
cable affixed to a multi-pin port on the PLG150-AN. Have you checked whether there
are any screws that hold the card in place or is it simply a 'snap-on' affair? There's a
DX200/AN200 list here at Yahoo! Groups that you might want to ask if nobody on
this list can provide assistance. Or you might pop off an email to Kenton (they're
guru's when it comes to PLG cards) - perhaps they might lend advice.

Re: [AN1x] an200 to trade for a plg150 an

2003-10-24 by Wan Kemper en/of Jackie Weusthuis

Hi Seb,

I've got a plg150an card fitted in my motif. It has a white multipin
connector where you can put in a white multipin plug from the motif .
So there is definitly no cutting of wires involved. The plug/connecter
combination have some interlocking parts, so they are kept together.
To break this connection I use a small screwdricer and put it between
the plug and the connector and then gently twist the screwdriver. This
I do on several places acroos the connection, and then the plug will
come loose of the connector.

So I should expect that the plg is on the same type of connection in
the AN200.

Hope this helps you out.

Hi Wan

Read your posting through the list that you have a PLG150-AN hooked-up to
your Motif and wondered if I could ask a couple of questions?

I have a Motif8 with 3 x PLG150 cards fitted :-

SLOT 1 = PLG150-PF
SLOT 2 = PLG150-AN
SLOT 3 = PLG150-VL

I've been downloading Custom Plug-in voices for the three cards, including
the PLG150-AN but have noticed the Plug-in voice effects are not transmitted
with SYSEX dumps and therefore the effects are a little wanting in relation
the the actual preset voice effects..

When editing the 128 User bank on the PLG150-AN am I supposed to edited the
effects before I transfere these to the 64 Voice PLG Plug-In bank?

I did notice I could edit all voice effects, system and Insert from the
Motif Voice Editor/Librarian on my computer and then transmit this over
USB/MIDI but this seems like a lot of work just to get the PLG voices to
have similar effects as the preset voices and indeed the built-in Motif
voices.. Surley there's a more simpler solution to this?

I remember on my Korg Trinity (Which I sold over a year ago)I could copy
both voice and insert effects from voice to voice, combi to combi and indeed
insert this into a track in the sequencer but not on the motif sporting
these PLG cards - seems like a lot of work editing 3 x 64 voices to improve
on basic system reverb..

I'm experiencing difficulties knowing which effects to use to the "Best of
Yamaha" AN1X/PLG150-AN voices I've downloaded from the web, as well as my
other PLG cards so any pointers, and or help would indeed be appreciated..
Taking the PLG150-AN as a starting point and then I can use the information
and move to the other cards.. I have noticed that the PLG150-VL card does
retain the effects for custom Plug-In voices so this card's ok.. Just the
PLG150-PF and PLG150-AN cards seem to possess little or no effects when
dumping SYSEX voices to the cards..

Thanks..

Hi Kevan,

I will try to answer you're questions, but english is not my native
language, so it may be a little weird sometimes. Sorry for that.

Correct. The plg150-an doesn't have any effects beside a distortion.
So it depends on the host for more effects. As there are several
different hosts available with different effect possibillities the
actual effect parameters are not part of the custom voices.

I use the AN1Xedit program to edit/load raw custom voices. Then I use
these voices as the basis for user voices on my motif. I edit them on
the motif and store the edited version in a PLG user voice with the
added motif effects.

As told above I do this on the motif itself. It still is a bit of
work, but I can get around my motif pretty fast.

You can copy the common parms between voices.
Voice job mode, [F3] copy, type =common
So when you set up one voice with the effects you want on all other
voices you can copy these to them. Still one by one.But you don't have
to specify the complete effect parameters each time.

The VL card also doesnt have any effects in its custom voices. It only
has more build-in plug voices.
And applying effects is a very personal thing, my taste can be very
different from yours. So experimenting is the key here, just try the
different effects on the sounds, keep what sounds good to you and skip
the rest.
The effecttypes that I use most often are the chorus, reverb, delays
and compressors. But that is hardly surprising given that these are
used mostly by everyone.

Hope this helps...

Hey, it sounds great to me :-)

Emm, thought this was the problem..

Me too, I've just created my first "ALL" file complete with SYSEX dumps for
the 3 x PLG cards and this loads ine when the "ALL" file is names
"AUTOLOAD.ALL" and AUTOLD1 AUTOLD2 and AUTOLD3 for the Plug-In Bulk dump
files.. I too have edited them on the Motif 8 and located the plug-in voices
in the 64 x user memory locations..

>As told above I do this on the motif itself. It still is a bit of

Yep, I am pretty adept at getting around on the Motif O/S modes but wasn't
sure whether I had to set-up additional effects from the Host Synth, and in
this case its the Motif.. Guess you do..

>You can copy the common parms between voices.

Yep, this copy common params between voices seems the way to go to speed-up
things when editing and copying voices from 128 User to 64 x Plug-in,
especially on the PLG150-AN.. I shall probably use this method on the other
PLG cards I have installed on my Motif.. I noticed in the PLG150-PF manual
that the Preset voices are listed with what type of Insert effects and
System effects whcih should act as good templates for the second bank of 64
x Plug-In Voices when setting-up effects for them..

>The VL card also doesnt have any effects in its custom voices. It only

I guess setting-up Insert and System effects for voices for the PLG150-AN on
the Motif as HOST will have to be trial and error but I'll experiment.. One
of the great things about the PLG150-AN is its a analog modelling synth and
for these types of synths effects do tend to be subjective.. Distortion for
one person could very well be EQ for another person..

I think I can use the PLG150-PF manual as a template for the 64 Plug-In
voices to try an emulate similar effects used on Grand Pianos, Electric
Pianos,Digital Pianos, Organs, Clavs and combinations with Piano/Strings
etc, this shouldn't be too difficult to acheive but the time needed to edit
the 64 x Plug-In voices in one sitting.. Its the PLG150-AN which is going
to be a challenge but hey, that's what its all about I suppose..

>Hope this helps...

BTW, good list.. Greets to everybody..
