FRUSTRATING! BAH.. can i get some help

FRUSTRATING! BAH.. can i get some help

2002-10-13 by kollegekid12345

im using the an1x to trigger the sounds from a sound module... the
porblem is.. the an1x adds some type of modulation to external
sounds.. its some type of modulation (fine up and down picth changes)
that are annyoing as heck when putting together any type of melody. i
dont understand how the an1x is automatically effecting my sound
modules sounds.

my MIDI set up is

rm1x out > an1x in
an1x thru > xtreme lead (sound module) in
an1x out > rm1x in

thanks
dave

If the out of the an1x is connected to the rm1x then it cannot be affecting
the xl1, it is most probable that the source of your problem is the rm1x as
it's midi data is copied out of the an1x thru.

Acutally, I think the AN1x data at the MIDI Out port is duplicated on
the MIDI Thru port. The easiest way to trouble shoot is to remove
the RM1x from the MIDI chain. Simply go AN1x MIDI Out --> XL1
MIDI In for trouble shooting.

I suspect either 1) the MOD Wheel is not zeroed out, i.e., all the
way down, and is modulating the LFO Speed or LFO Depth on
the XL1 or 2) he's applying enough key pressure on the AN1x to
trigger the aftertouch which is modulating some parameter on
his XL1 (just as the MOD Wheel would.)

Hope this helps.

Jon

the MOD wheel is all the way down.. im trying all the possible MIDI
setups... but the an1x is still giving off some type of signal and
effecting the sounds in the xl1 =(

is there a way to just kill the modulation effect i.e. remove it from
the MIDI system?

looks like imma have to drag that old casio piece of **** out of the
closet and use that for a MIDI controller...

sounds like the aftertouch - you can teach your X11 to ignore it, or turn it off on the an1x

AFAIK there is no method to disable the transmission of
Channel Pressure from the AN1x. I downloaded a copy of the
XL1 manual from E-mu and there does not appear to be a global
disable for Channel Pressure - he'll likely have to disable
Channel Pressure as a Modulation Source for the XL1 Patch in
question. I could be mistaken so I'd advise checking in with the
XL1 list here at Yahoo! Groups.

Have you tried running the XL1 off the RM1x MIDI Thru? Does the
RM1x allow filtering of Continuos Controllers? Most software
sequencers and some multi-port MIDI Interfaces allow filtering of
PB, AT, and CC's.

Re: [AN1x] FRUSTRATING! BAH.. can i get some help

2002-10-20 by kollegekid12345

ok, heres the deal. the an1x transmits a bunch of data via MIDI out.
after messing with the portamento and PEG/LFO knobs and other knobs
too.. ive realized that the an1x can drastically change sounds from
an external tone generator, unwanted for the most part, but i think
these effects might be useful sometime. i cant figure out how to cut
off all this MIDI data from being transmited, BUT i can filter the
data from being recorded using the rm1x MIDI settings. although, i
still hear unwanted effects (portamento especially) when im recording
a track or improvisng. so basically i think there is no way i can
stop the an1x from transmiting all this extra data via MIDI out, but
i can filter it from being recorded into my sequencer. thanks for all
the replies.

cheers
dave

You can turn off most of them. Either AN1xEdit or the "Ctrl" section on pages 95 and 96 of the Owner's Manual will allow you to change the MIDI CC# of the Mod Wheel, foot pedals, ribbon controller, and the programmable knobs. You can even set some or all of the above to Off. You cannot, however, change the Portamento switch.

-BW

Yes, it does.

Try this - Power off your AN1x; Hold down the [ASSIGN] button on
the front panel while powering on the AN1x; Either "mode1" or
"mode2" will display on the LCD during the start-up procedure.

While in Mode 1 the AN1x adheres to the MIDI standard for
Control Change messages - while in Mode 2 the AN1x has a
special list of CC parameters so that nearly *every* parameter
can be automated via MIDI CCs. You'll find a table documenting
the Control Change Modes on page 9 of the AN1x Data List - and
you'll find the above procedure documented on page 96 of the
Owner's Manual. If you don't already have hard copies of the
documentation you'll find PDF versions for download in the Files
section here at Yahoo! Groups

The status byte for Portamento is either On or Off - MIDI CC #065
- you can use the Portamento button on the front panel of the
AN1x to disable Portamento - the required MIDI CCC will be
transmitted to your sound module regardless of which mode
your AN1x is in.

See above.
