Oh, sorry..............guess I should have said...............lets hear
things relevent to the list please and not someones self promotion/ drivel
on what they did last saturday night....oh yeah, thanks in advance. Oh and
here the tip: Well 2 actually. First when you play your AN1X turn it on
first. 2) When you play your AN1X live be sure to play it well, in context,
tastefully even but then be sure to be humble about your great playing and
have no egotistical reason to tell everyone about it and waste bandwidth by
pretending to be a star. Be sure to only ask relevent questions and give
relevent information unlike what I am doing here which is again, a waste of
bandwidth. Till that time....................r

Exactly! So why don´t you simply shut your mouth and keep your flames
to yourself? Jimmy has been a long time on this group and has already
posted a lot of constructive postings. But you, my friend, i don´t
remember seeing your nickname so far in a good posting recently, i
don´t remember seeing your nickname AT ALL!

So why don´t you contribute some usefull postings first, before you
start flaming other people you even don´t know!

Otherwise, Jon and the other list moderators will do steps to ban you
from this group.

Great upload them AND let´s do a tutorial.

At the moment I don´t dig too deep into the AN1x, mostly i tweak some
sounds from the group, or i take the AN1x-Genetix and tweak those a
bit, got already some interesting sounds out of it (and uploaded them
to the group). One of those sounds like a typical Yello sound, those
racing-car noise.

As i said...both...:)

>Everybody takes one sound they are really proud of and than tell us
>step by step how it was created....well?

Allright, here´s one from the Waldorf Attack(TM) manual:

Roland TR808 Bass Drum
On the Roland TR-808, this sound was made by one filter with a high
rsonance settingh, triggered by short impulse. Two controls were
provided to adjust the bassdrum:"Tone" was used to set the pitch by
chnging the filter´s cutoff frequency, und "Deacay" was used to set
its resonance, which in turn controlled the decay rate.
On the Attack (AN1x), you could use the filter´s self-oscillation by
triggering it with a short noise impulse made by the second
oscillator, whose volume you can control by an envelope.
But a better way is to use Oscillator 1 playing a sine wave, and by
changing the initial click impulse by means of the filter.

Happy tweaking!

Rich,
Tone it down or you'll find yourself banned from the list.

It's typically NOT a good idea to alienate the list membership and list
moderators before you've even introduced yourself - let alone
contributed something more useful than a juvenile attempt at sarcasm.

Also, please don't forward the entire list digest - edit down to the
necesary bits of text, please.

Bastiaan:

I'd love to get those snares. I volunteer to do a "tutorial" on a
lead sound I have been using. I am quite proud of it.

I think tutorials are really helpful because the sound is usually
a 'local optimum' for the programmer. When we read the story of how
the sound came to be, we get a good education on the trade-offs and
the constraints.

I don't have a bank yet, so a tutorial is something I can do. :)

Cheers,

Jerry

Look, although Rich's tone is a bit harsh, I think he may have been
responding to the original poster's comment about how it was "not easy to
fit the AN1x into the mix", which I found to be a bit weird. Um, this
sounds like one of those problems with using the wrong tool for the job...
and since when did All Along the Watchtower have flying saucers in it? ;-\

About the VCA feedback - I agree that this board rocks, but Ray's analysis
might be right - that is that the output stage can eaisly be overloaded. I
think the manual even states that, so it offically becomes a "feature". Ha,
so now you're back to some of the strangeness of true analog again, like
having to memorize where to set the volume knob for some patches. I've got
to do exactly that memorization with my Roland MKS-50 (rack Alpha Juno),
which although it's a hybrid analog/digital and has presets... there are
some timbres that sound great at a certain digital setting (envelope
strength, filter resonance) which overloads the finals and gives ugly
clipping or way too much loudness. When I back down on the digital
parameters to compensate, the patch loses its character ----- therefore, I
have to memorize the volume knob setting and back it off as much as
necessary to fit the mix.

Anyone else found this true?

Indeed the AN1x likes to overload easily and it´s sometimes hard to
figure out, at what level it doesn´t and still everything sounds
fine. Maybe also an EQ-adjustment might help. Especially it overloads
in the lower frequencies (but could be also the sounds i use ;).

I would let the AN1x play some nasty raw bassline, like Moloko uses
on "Fun For Me", along with some metallic klong from my DX and those

The problem with communication over the internet is that you only get the
10% content of what you'd have with face to face conversation, which
consists of 60% body language, 30% intonation and only 10% the actual
wording. So careful wording is very important, as is knowing what and what
not to send. It has taken me ten years so far, and I won't claim not to
still make mistakes.

As for the "the moderator is gonna have your ass" bits I read in this and
other mails, my personal opinion is that a community is pretty capable of
regulating itself, and that the only *really* unacceptable behaviour is
personal insults (like if I would call Jon a wanker, or something, which of
course I wouldn't dream of :) ).
