Does AN200 sounds "fatter"?

Does AN200 sounds "fatter"?

2001-06-25 by Thomas

Someone on sonicstate.com is saying that AN200 sounds fatter than
AN1x. Does someone has both and can tell? IMO the only differences
are the technical ones with the one more LFO, 5 polyphony and no
scene morph for the AN200 (PLG150). But does it sound because of
this "fatter"?

Regards, Tom

After messing around with that little box on a few trips to guitar
center... i'll tell you i would love to own it...along with the
dx200...lol...as well as ALL the korg electribes...still haven't seen
that new M Electribe in stores yet...

right now if someone gave me a few thousand dollars...i would definitely
get the AN200 it does sound as they say...phat... it would be a sweet
killer dedicated bassline/3track rythmn machine...but then again you
could get a Roland MC303 to do more...
i think these little boxes would be killer to chain...

That doesn´t answer my question. Does it sound better than AN1x?

The AN200 uses the PLG150AN board for its sound generation. Therefore in
general the sound will not be as fat as the AN1x (due to lower poly and
scene count).

However the PLG150AN does provide some additional oscillator waveforms
(including a very rich multi saw) and an additional VCO cross modulation
algorithm. These parameters can be used to produce richer voices than
can be created on AN1x. Also the AN200 uses XG effects, which are
different to those of the AN1x.

Hence which machine sounds fatter, really depends on specific patches
and the voice/effect programming!
