On some patches the knobs are assigned as controllers (like the ribbon, mod wheel ect) in the assign mode so they just act as a control rather than a proper sound parameter edit (like VCF cutoff, ASDR ect).
Use the mod matrix to have more than one parameter assigned to one or more knobs at different rates. This is where the untapped power of the AN1X lies. ;-)

restored. well, considering the price i paid (300$) maybe it's not a
wonder, that this board has some problems but i'm in Korea now and
it's not so easy to get understood even at the biggest musical store
in Seoul. So i decided the proper maintaince to be done when i come
back in my country- Bulgaria. About the problems - they are three:
- DC jack sometimes just switches the power off- it could be
expected since this is obvously an old and not very gently used
board (it even has a crack on the rear panel) so it needs a change;
- volume knob causes scratches sometimes, maybe just needs to be
cleaned;
- ribbon controller sometimes behaves kind of strange- sometimes it
changes the sound without touching. after ignoring it in the system
settings menu i don't experience such a problem anymore, but losing
this so expressive controller is not a good idea. maybe again some
dust or something...yeah you may say didn't you notice all these
things when you were taking the board..obviosly i didn't..i was busy
to enjoy the beautiful yamaha sounds. but i hope it all can be fixed.
one more thing: sometimes when i tweak the knobs changing some of
the patches "edit" appears on the screan, but sometimes it doesn't.
