New to HP50

2008-06-20 by drskeptical

Hello
I am a new member to the HP 50G forum. Having received mine yesterday I
have to say I am impressed.
I have finally conceded that my HP65 has died. I returned it to HP to
see if they had an old working strip readers but to no avail. I have to
thank HP for their efforts in trying to help.

My question is regarding complex numbers. I did buy the HP 35s and the
33s but the problem with these calculators are that they will not
handle square root or sqaure complex numbers.
Hence the venture into the HP 50G terrain.

This does do what I want my only question at this time is, Is there an
easy way to switch from Polar to rectangular without having to go
through the "Mode" then scroll down to select the options for
rectangular or polar. I note you can press "Right shift CAT then select
Cylin" I just wondered if there was a quicker way.

Any advice will be welcome.

hello universe,  almost all the commands on the hp48g/gx can
be assigned to keys on the new hp 50 G. What skill HP has.
old command structures moved forward to new products. I have a 75C and a 41cv available for learning methods prior to
the hp48g/gx. Please make a reasonalbe offer for these older
products.  Best Wishes

There is an easy way to get to all the "modes" that controls the way your calculator will preform the calculations: Press and hold the [LEFT-SHIFT] key (white key) then press [MODE] key, a soft menu with sub menus appears, the one you are interested in is ANGLE which you access pressing [F2] the last three soft keys switch the mode a complex or  a vector will be showed.

You can also do what a I did, I assigned a little program to the [MODE] key that toggles between rectangular or polar, to do that:

- Enter this a program in the stack

«

IF -16 FC?C

THEN -16 SF

END

»

- Press 21 [ALPHA] [ALPHA] ASN [ENTER]

Is that simple!  Now every time you want to switch form rectangular to polar or vice versa, just press [LEFT-SHIFT] [ALPHA] [MODE] in other words [LEFT-SHIFT] [ALPHA] is USER
