Emulate 49 on a 50

Emulate 49 on a 50

2008-05-10 by titimartines

Is there any way to emulate HP 49 inside a HP 50g? Reason: to enable
programs such as ZeldaHP to work properly.

No, Emu48 doesn't work on the HP 50g. Your best bet for running
ZeldaHP is probably Emu48 on a Windows box, PalmOS, WinCE, pocket PC,
although ZeldaHP runs fine on the older OS X version of Emu48. Calc -
Grey - 5 Pict and "+" to increase contrast got rid of flickering and
gave the sharpest picture on my machine. www.hpcalc.org for the latest
versions of Emu48 and the roms needed.

One possibility for running older games on your HP 50g are the
Openfire ports. Info, programs and some games here:
http://fly.srk.fer.hr/~manjo/openfire/
IIRC, someone had a compatibility problem between Openfire and rom 2.10-7.

Any program that is listed for +, plus, or 49G+ should work fine on
the 50g. Some of the games on www.hpcalc.org have comments. You'll
want to read the comments before trying a 49 program on your 50.
Here's a comment on Bomberhp4049: "When I tried this it reset my 49g+
and deleted everything in my home directory."

Srry but what exactly do you mean with that?

O.K. The short answer is: when you have Emu48 running, the top right
menu item (on your computer) is "Calc". You'll see where to go from
there. When you have Zelda running, the "+" and "-" keys on Emu48 do
contrast. Now, I'm running a Mac and you're probably on a Windows
machine, so YMMV. I'm going to list some of the steps I went through.
This is assuming you have Emu48 running with a 49G rom. If you don't
have Emu48 running, start another thread on this forum.

Download and unzip z49_03 (Zelda). Drag and drop Z49v0.en to the Emu48
calculator screen. On level 2 of the stack, you will see "Library Data
Code" followed by several lines of gobblydook. On level 1 of the
stack, you will see 'Z49v0'. On the Emu48 calc, hit the STO button. On
your computer, you'll need to figure out your keyboard mapping on the
Emu48; hold down (on Emu48) ON while you press (Emu48) F3. After Emu48
has rebooted, hit VAR. "Z49v0" should be first one listed (in the
future, if you add more libs, this will get shifted down).
