As someone has already mentioned, you can assign these commands to a key so they'll be more easily executed. The program Keyman at www.hpcalc.org helps you configure your keyboard or you can do something like this...
Put <<CYLIN>> on the stack
Put 21.1 on the stack (that's the key at row 2 column 1 of the keyboard. You can pick another key to assign to)
Press (or just enter) ASN & press "enter"
Put <<RECT>> on the stack
Put 21.2 on the stack (that's the key at row 2 column 1 of the keyboard. You can pick another key to assign to)
Press (or just enter) ASN & press "enter"
Then, with the the coordinate on the stack, press the key at 21 to convert to polar. Or press left shift and then the key at 21 to convert to rectangular (the .2 part in 21.2 means left shift).
The key at 21 on the hp49 is the "apps" key I suspect it's the same on the hp50.
Oh, and you have to turn on user mode (lefthift alpha) for the new key assignments to work.
You can read up on things like ASN, RCLKEYS, STOKEYS etc.

That's just one way of doing it. You can read up on CUSTOM menus for another way to customize your hp50.
Have fun. :)

In case you've had trouble finding the menu and assuming the 50 is the same as the 49, you can try...PRG -> NXT -> MODES -> ANGLEWith the coordinate on the stack, pressing RECT or CYLIN will make switch accordingly.
