There are different ways to do your quadratic problem. A quick & dirty way is to use the DEF command.
enter 'PLUS(A,B,C)=(-B+(B^2-4*A*C)^.5)/2*A'
press the DEF key on your keyboard
You'll see PLUS as one of your menu keys.
enter e.g. 1 -2 -3 on the stack and press that PLUS soft key and the function will be evaluated.
You can do the same with the negative part...
'MINUS(A,B,C)=(-B-(B^2-4*A*C)^.5)/2*A'
enter 'PLUS(A,B,C)=(-B+(B^2-4*A*C)^.5)/2*A'
