Just saw Blue Floyd tonight so I did not have much of a chance to play
with the modular tonight.
A Couple of quick points.
And not in really any order...
1)Yes I did buy 2 UEG's From Encore. Very nice.
2)Yes I did buy 4 of Tony's (Oakley)reversable attenuators and built all 4
with 5532's.
3)Will I buy anything from Paul that resembles either?
Without a doubt.
4)The Oakley stuff is ok. For now.
I will not comment on the quality because except to say it is cool for
DIY and serves a very important roll in the DIY family. (Thanks Tony!)
5)I will say the UEG is very nice, and a full review is in the works. I
will buy more of this type of equipment.
6)I must say though with reguard to the DIY stuff, unless I make it myself
(IE a proto board via Paul) I have no one to blame for the quality of the
parts chosen or the design except myself. Be prepaired to hear crap about
the "look alikes", because I can tell already I should have waited on some
stuff. (No Larry not your interval switcher!)
7)If you add a fancy look alike MOTM panel, it will not even be close to a
MOTM module. As an engineer and a tech the MOTM stuff is far superior to
any thing else out there.
8)Paul take your time. I want good quality engineering and components. I
will buy. I expect that from you.
9)There are others out there that offer cool/odd modules (Blacet for one)
I will buy them for their interesting qualities.
I hope others feel the way I do. Because in the history of the
synthesizers there has not been a single producer of TOP quality modular
synths ever. Not only that, one that I can fix even beyond (with one
execption) far into the future.
Until now.
If you feel differently I ask you to name a single one.
Having owned every synth at one time or another (except EMU and I have to
say "very nice" based on the documentation I own!) I doubt you can.
Let me make sure I qualify the statement so you guy's don't run amuck.
Modular.
High quality. (SN, tracking, repeatabilty, etc.)
Repairable.
Name one....
I will wait for the quality modules and buy very little else.
Dave "the synth snob"
Flame suit on, but I may not be around to answer every enraged reader so
just be patient. I will fire back. But I really doubt you can say much if
you are already on this list!
BTW.. maybe I should have waited until I was sober to write this.
