Oh, I really don't have a serious interest in such a beast. I have plenty
of synths that can store patches. I just thought that Paul's (not our
Paul S.) idea was interesting and could have used some more development. I
think something like that could easily be made to work but would certainly
be easier if you knew on the front end of the design work that you wanted
such a scheme. The scheme could even include patching and switches if you
were willing to bring all that stuff to some sort of card slot. However,
in all practical sense, I think something like that would be a hardware
nightmare with connections and such. Seems like people want to make
non-modulars out of modulars for some reason. Normal ?? We don't need no
stinkin' normal.

I have to agree with your on this one Dave. When I did gig with an anaolg
lead synth a few years ago (Korg 770), I did appreciate the # 1 oscillator
having a rotary switch for oscillator selection. It seems to me that this
would be an easy modification for MOTM if you wanted one of your
oscillators to have this feature. Since the MOTM course pot is outboard
from the circuit board it could easily be replaced with a rotary switch and
appropriately sized resistors or trimmers. The Fine tune could still
supply frequency tweaking. If one was going to all this trouble why not
plan to add at least the popular 5th interval in between the octave
selections. I would not want ALL my oscillators made this way (I like the
flexibility of the continuous varible and like to manually sweep the pot of
the slave oscillator when doing hard sync). However, It might be nice to
change one VCO to this type operation. I have some 12 position two pole
rotary switches that would work perfectly in this situation. If I am
looking at them right, ten of the positions would align almost perfectly
with the 10 tick marks on the MOTM panel. The unmarked positions could be
used for another neat feature. What if the second pole in the rotary
switch was used to disconnect the rotary switch and place a lower
resistance value in the place of R3? So, your selection would be any of
the 10 presets (octaves or intervals) or varible with the fine control
having a broader range (more course, but not the "whole range") so you
would retain the option to use the oscillator in that continuosly varible
mode (over much of the oscillator's range but not all.
The one thing I guess I am probably missing is what effect changing the
value of R3 and opening R4 toward the rotarty switch might have on the
calibration of 1v/oct control. Anyhow, I am just speculating on how such
a modification might work. I would talk seriously to Paul before I
seriously considered such a mod. So, I guess in a long winded sort of way
I do agree with you Dave that this a a great feature for "live" work.
