I followed the convention of the MOTM-820. The convention in the US
is also up = ON. The question is, what is it that is ON?
Since the switch is labelled BYPASS, think of it as BYPASS MODE is ON
instead of EFFECT is ON in the up position, if it will help you sleep
better nights <heh>.
Seriously though, your question was not frivolous. User interface
design is very important and I spend a lot of time thinking about it,
at work as well as when I lay out my panel designs. However one thing
I've learned is that you can never please everybody, because everyone
has different perceptions and expectations.
So another important guiding principle is to establish UI and
labelling conventions, and to be consistant with them across your
system.
Remember this conversation, all you who want to build Oakley VCOs and
VCFs. Tony's layout convention is DIFFERENT than Paul's, and I have
to make a decision as to how to lay out the panels. I will be asking
for feedback later on that issue.
