One of the problems with using something like the analog switches for
something like this might be the resistance of the switch. Small amount of
resistance makes a big difference in the 822 summing circuits. However, you
have touched on something. An extra input can be added to the 822 or 831 in
many different ways for a variety of functions. Each channel has an extra
spot on the PCB where one more summing resistor could be installed thanks to
the trim / no-trim option. There are several functions that could be
implemented here. Just some quick thoughts:
FM input. (this might be nice on the upcoming micro VCO_
Master tune for the VCOs on that switch (all channels at once.)
I plan to do development down that line later and document it on my web
site. However, I am deep in metal brackets right now. As for the shortage
of 822 / 831 panels. You are not alone. Interest in this DIY project
increased significantly once PCBs were made available. After these final
resistor tweaks I am looking at this weekend and the completion of assembly
docs, and custom panels (thanks to Dave Bradley - THE man) and custom made
mounting brackets, this thing is about 90% up to kit status. I never had
any plans for this to happen. If I had known, I would have spent more prep
time up front instead of such a piece meal operation. Which of course, does
bring up another interesting question. Would additional people be
interested in these if I were to do a very limited edition of kits or
assembled modules? There are more PCBs. Inquiring minds .....
In any case, the next run of Dave Bradley's Stooge-approved panels will most
certainly include 831s and 822s for all those with 822 and 831 PCBs and no
panels.

i even got out of bed for this one:
if you had a spare 822 board you could assemble it with jacks where the
rotary switches would be, patch it to a bank of motm#700s attach a clock
source, a clock divider - and hey presto - a sort of arpegiator..?
fortunately i had the forethought to order two sets of pcbs and only the one
set of panels :-)
of course, this is probably a very badly flawed idea
